Life is Challenging There is Hope Emmaus Counseling Services exists to listen, care and respond to the problems you may be experiencing. Everyone faces times when their normal ways of understanding and functioning seem to no longer work properly. We may wonder whether God still cares or has anything to say about our situation. We may even question whether God is real. But the Bible reveals that he does care and is speaking into every area of our life, even when he appears to be silent or absent. It also tells us that real and lasting change can only occur when people know themselves and their problems within an ongoing relationship with Jesus Christ. Finally, it tells us that he graciously meets us where we are—not where we or others think we “should” be. Restoration Problems arise whenever we experience a loss of functioning in one or more of these areas of life. Because our lives are an intricate and interrelated whole, when one area of life experiences distress, it is not unusual for other areas to also become affected. When this occurs, we all need solutions that will help us address these issues honestly and holistically. Together, we will identify and utilize both psychological and spiritual resources as appropriate to bring about the reconciliation, healing and wholeness we need.
Life can be filled with joy and also full of many difficult challenges. Plato was indeed wise in reminding us to “be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a great battle.” Sometimes we seem to be on top of our battles, while other times they seem to be on top of us. There can also be times when, no matter how hard we try, our present circumstances can feel so overwhelming that we begin to lose hope that our life can really change.
These are the beliefs that are shaping my life and practice, but please know I will respect wherever you may be in your life journey.
Relational Living
So how were we made to live? Generally speaking, we are all created with a mind, body and spirit which together make up the human person. We are also created to live in an interactive relationship with God, self and others within the various contexts and stories that make up our everyday lives. We usually have an overall sense of well-being when these areas are mostly in sync with one another.
